Region’s leading sedation dentists
Dental sedation
Arnica Dental Care is an award-winning centre of excellence and the region’s leading sedation dentists for minimising anxiety and discomfort through sedation and gentle dentistry.
What treatment can I have sedation for?
As the region’s leading sedation dentist, Arnica has been offering a comprehensive range of dental treatment under sedation since 2001. From routine restorative treatment to more complex treatments such as extractions, root canal therapy, crowns, veneers and dental implants.
What types of dental sedation are offered?
Oral sedation
Oral sedation is the simplest form of sedation, and is ideal for patients with mild anxiety who can be given oral temazepam or diazepam before their appointment.
Inhalation sedation (IS)
Inhalation sedation (also known as relative analgesia) involves breathing a mixture of nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and oxygen through a comfortably-fitting nose piece that allows dental treatment to be carried out at the same time.
Intravenous sedation (IV)
Intravenous sedation is where sedatives are administered through a cannula into a vein in the arm or the back of the hand (pictured). This technique will change your level of consciousness so that, even if you’re dental phobic, you’ll be able to tolerate much-needed dental treatment and still be able to converse with your dentist or dental nurse.
What is gentle dentistry?
Gentle dentistry is an approach adopted by all our staff to ensure every patient feels relaxed and comfortable. Our gentle dentistry is based upon:
- appreciating how anxious a patient is prior to the appointment
- helping patients relax prior to the appointment
- understanding how the patient prefers to be treated
- exploring effective ‘soft’ distraction tactics including chat and humour
- taking time to explain treatments and procedures
- listening to and responding to patient wishes throughout the treatment
- taking time to complete treatment, incorporating intervals when required/preferred
