Head Nurse Cloe Stewart appointed as Arnica’s new Practice Manager

Breaking from the tradition of appointing practice managers from outside the practice, Bupa Platinum’s regional management team were so impressed with Cloe’s achievements as Head Nurse and the overwhelming support from other team members that she was the obvious choice for Arnica’s new PM.

Susannah Murray, who had been in the role for only eight months, had decided to move back to Liverpool to be nearer to family and friends, which meant that Arnica was once more looking for a new PM but not for long.

Encouraged by her colleagues and previous Arnica Practice Manager, Harriet Arnold, who is now providing HR support to Arnica and other Platinum practices, Cloe applied and got the job.

Practice managers are often the unsung heroes of dentistry as their role is highly challenging and complex due, in the main, to being ultimately responsible for providing exceptional quality treatment and care, maintaining profitability in the face of spiralling costs and shortages, surpassing the standards required by increasingly stringent compliance, and having to work around the shortage of experienced, qualified staff especially when permanent staff are on annual leave or off sick.

Our drag-racing, motocross-riding, equestrian has risen to the challenge and, according to Practice Principal Ellie Ledger, is ”doing brilliantly”.

Cloe joined Arnica in January 2021 with eight years of dental nursing experience, having completed her National Examination Board for Dental Nurse (NEBDN) Diploma in 2015.

In 2022 Cloe was promoted to Lead Nurse, a role that saw her managing a 7-strong nursing team and successfully steering the practice through Covid and a CQC (Care Quality Commission) review.

Due to her attention to detail, excellent people management skills and popularity with both clinicians and patients alike, Cloe was promoted to Practice Manager in early March 2023.
