You’re not alone. According to statistics from the Oral Health Foundation almost half of adults in the UK have a fear of the dentist.
We know that being scared to visit the dentist can mean that people put off or avoid the treatment and check-ups they need. So, at Arnica Dental Care, we’re always looking for ways to put our patients at ease.
Dental sedation is designed specifically for patients who are nervous. It minimises pain and helps you to relax.
Although dentists used to put patients to sleep for some dental work, it is more common now for you to have Dental sedation while you’re conscious. Having conscious sedation is safer, and means you recover more quickly and can get back on with your day.
The medicine we administer is a combination of sedatives (to help you to relax), and anaesthetic (to minimise the pain).
There are two main methods of administering conscious sedation:
Inhalation sedation (IS) – this is where you inhale through a nosepiece during your treatment which helps you to relax.
Intravenous sedation (IV) – this is where we administer sedation through an injection into your hand or arm during treatment. This will calm you and relax you so deeply you may not remember much of what happened.
At Arnica Dental Care, all of our dentists and nurses are qualified to administer both intravenous and inhalation conscious sedation. We will talk through all of the detail with you and make sure whatever treatment we recommend is just right for you.
We don’t just focus on Dental sedation – we do everything we can to make the whole experience a calm and relaxing one:
Arnica Dental Care is an award-winning Centre of Excellence for treating nervous, anxious and dental-phobic patients.
In December 2019, we won ‘Best Treatment of Nervous Patients’ at the Private Dentistry Awards. The award recognised Arnica’s approach to patient care; how staff provide continuity and consistency of care to establish trusting relationships with patients, evidence of patient satisfaction and examples of clinical excellence.
If you, or someone you know, is not getting the dental treatment you require due to being nervous, anxious or even dental phobic, then do get in touch.
Our ‘back in the chair’ initiative includes things like popping in to meet the team, taking a tour of the practice and discussing ‘gentle dentistry’ before you decide to go ahead.
